Mushairas in Dubai
Salim Jafri was the one who started the mushaira craze in Dubai. In the 1980s, he brought famous Indian and Pakistani poets to Dubai and introduced to Gulf audiences the old tradition of mushaira. The Dubai mushairas soon became the rage and mushaira-mania spread from there. In 1996, Majlis-e-Farogh-e-Adab Doha held Jashan-e-Saleem Jafri.
When Salim Jafri died in 1997, the Dubai mushairas died with him. There was no one after him who was able to organize them with his inimitable style. After Dubai, Riyadh, and more specifically, Jeddah became the next locations where the fires of Urdu were rekindled.
However, Urdu enthusiasts in Dubai picked up the torch of Urdu to organize mushairas. A major Mushairas was held in January 2015 to celebrate the Republic Day of India. Participating poet included Waseem Barelvi, Dr. Kaleem Qaisar, Anamika Ambar, Ambareen Amber, Anjum Rahbar, Jauhar Kanpuri, Shola Tandvi, Dr. Nadeem Shaad, Farooque Adil and Ashok Sundarani.
In March 2015, Press Club of Dubai in Association with AMU Alumni forum held Aalmi Mushaia.
Humari Association, an organization of like-minded literary enthusiasts who live to promote the culture and literature, also sponsors Mushairas in Dubai. Other Urdu literary groups include Bazm-e-Ahbab-e Zauq, Bazm-e-Urdu, Hamrahi Association and Pakistan Association Dubai.
Mushairas in Kuwait
Like Dubai and Jeddah, Kuwait is also a hub of Urdu literary activities. There are a number of Urdu literary organizations which hold literary events and Mushairas. An Aalmi Mushaera was held in February 2015. It was 7th Aalmi Mushira sponsored by Bazm-e-Adab. All India Cultural Association held a mushaira in January 2015 to celebrate the Republic Day of India. Other Urdu literary associations include Tahzib-e-Urdu and Bazm-e-Adab.
