The Urdu Academy of North America held its monthly literary program on September 27, 2015 at the Chandni Restaurant, Newark CA.

Dr. Ghazala Ansari, a popular personality of Bay Area, was MC of the program - Gulhai Ranga Rang. The Urdu enthusiasts were given an opportunity to recite or sing (if they can) the poetry of their choice. It was a very colorful event and Dr. Ghazala's humorous comments and introductions of the reciters made it more colorful.

Prof. Hamid Kamal Narvi chaired the event.  Prof. Zafar Afaq Ansari, former professor of psychology at the International University of Malaysia was chief guest.

Interestingly, many of the poetry reciters Urdu was not mother tongue but they learnt it because of their own leisure pursuit and  leisure activity.

At the outset she called Abdus Sattar Ghazali to present his choice of poetry. Dr. Ghazala introduced her as "phuljhari" meaning a person whose presence is very visible at the Urdu Academy events because of his camera. He also introduces the Urdu Academy globally through Academy's website. Abdus Sattar Ghazali recited a poem "Elaaj Bil Ghiza" (Treatment through food). This poem is written by a Hakeem of Randher, India which contains a complete Ayuvedic of Hikmat prescription for common illnesses in each stanza.

Kausar Saiyed from Junagarh, India, recited a poem of her ustad (poet teacher) Kamran Nadeem who expired recently.

Ishaq Nageshwala from Ujjain, India, read the poetry of a popular poet Bashir Badar.

Zeeshan Abbasi presented the poetry of Qamar Jalalvi, a distinguished Urdu poet.

Ibrahim Siddiqui chose the poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz to amuse the audience.

Hatim Rani from Gujrat, India, also recited the poetry of Qamar Jalalvi.

Dr. Priya Satia, Prof of History at the Stanford University, captivated the audience with her melodious voice.

Shahzad Basir, a fan of Faiz Ahmed Faiz, read his favorite poetry in his unique style.

Tasaddq Hussain Attari from Udaipur, India, thrilled the audience with his stylish presentation.

Moiz Khan was next to amuse the audience with Majruh Sultanpuri's ghazal.

Zafar Yusufzai presented a popular ghazal of Faiz Ahmed Faiz.

Almas Shabvani, an amateur singer, presented a poem of Tashie Zaheer.

Mobin Khalil, a Bay Area activist, also presented a poem of Tashie Zaheer.

Dr. Esmat Kamal, a scientist, chose to read the poetry of Jigar Moradabadi.

Sohail Zaidi, Prof. at the San Jose State University, presented the poetry of Meer Taqi Meer and Jigar Moradabadi representing the two eras of the Urdu language.

The Gulhai Ranga Rang program ended with a beautiful rendition by Nagesh Avadhani who captivated the audience with his God gifted melodious voice.
