Urdu Academy of North American's January 18, 2015 session was dedicated to the life and work of a well known poet of Pakistan, Haleem Qureshi. The literary event was held at the Chandni Restaurant, Newark, CA.

G. S. Falak sahib presided over the event while Tashie Zaheer, President of the Urdu Academy, was MC. Tashie Zaheer presented a well researched maqala on the life and work of Haleem Qureshi.Taakheer

Tashie Zaheer has the honor to attend a Mushaera in Islamabad last which was presided over by Haleem Qureshi. 

As usual a number of Urdu enthusiasts recited the poetry of Haleem Qureshi: Babar Sahib, Jaafar Shah, Mobeen Khalil, Moiz khan, Hatim Rani, Tasadduq Attari, Zafar Khan and Abdus Sattar Ghazali.                   

Haleem Qureshi writes in his own style and published his book very late that is why named “Takheer.”

According to Iftekhar Arif the poetic anthology of Haleem Qureshi was to be published in 1980 but it was published  21 years later in 2001. That is why the name of his deewan was named "Takheer" (delay).

Iftikhar Arif says that as Lord Buddha had stated that written truths remain there even if one dies, similarly, written words of Haleem will endure.

According to Nadeem Qasmi, poems of Haleem Qureshi leave deep impact on the readerHaleem Qureshi.

For Prof Aftab Iqbal Shamim, Haleem Qureshi produced good poems representing humane and progressive thoughts. He said that he got his poetry published only after the insistence of his friends.

Haleem is choosy in his own works and like Mirza Ghalib might have rejected many of his verses while compiling the book because you will not find a single weak verse in his book.

His style is very simple and he uses very low tone even when he has to use angry words.

January literary event was divided into two session.  The first session was dedicated to the life and work of Haleem Qureshi while the Urdu lovers presented poetry of their choice ("Gul Hai Ranga Rang") in the second session.

Among those who participated in the "Gul Hai Ranga Rang" program included: Hatim Rani, Jaafar Shah, Mehmoodul Hasan, Moeez Khan, Syed Aslam, Tasadduq Attari, Zafar Khan and Abdus Sattar Ghazali.

Abdus Sattar Ghazali recited a short poem about 'mother' of Danesh Raghuwanshi.

Roohi Asim, perhaps stole the show with melodious presentation of popular ghazal of Naseer Turabi, Wo Ham Safar Tha.....

Tajwar Shahana, a PTV star, amused the audience with a song of Dard Film (Afsana Likh Rahi HooN Tere Intezar Ka).

At the end MC Rashid Arshad thanked the audience to make this event successful. He also thanked Syed Sarwat of Chandni Restaurant for patronizing the Urdu Academy for hosting the event.
